A library on Christmas Eve... and not a soul in sight, when two books sitting side by side began a snowball fight. The first book, filled with Christmas cheer, drafted eight young elves. The other book held winter tales; its snowmen lined the shelves. The kings and queens of these two worlds arrayed their merry men, and just before the fun began, their Christmas trees joined in. And so a cheerful war ensured, but all in good clean fun, and Christmas morning came before they knew which book had won...

Each team is based on their respective book. The left side of the chess board is green and made to look like a book titled "North Pole Holiday". There is a picture of a polar bear and two snowflakes. This side represents Team Polar, whose main color is green with silver accents. Each piece has a silver base with snowflake accents. The king and queen polar bear dress similarly. They both are wearing white robes and green mantles with snowflake accents. They are wearing snowflake necklaces and holding snowflake rods. The king has a green crown with snowflake accents, while the queen wears a silver tiara. The bishop is a green tree with silver snowflake accents and a snowflake topper. The knight is a silver penguin riding a white wolf. The penguin is wearing a silver crown and the wolf is wearing a green saddle. The rook is a tower with white bricks and a green door. There is a white mouse wearing a green and silver tiara standing by the door. Above the door is a green flag. There is a silver snowflake on top of the rook. All of the pawns are snowmen wearing green top hats and scarves. One pawn is wearing a white coat and holding a silver shield. Another pawn has on a green outfit with snowflake accents. He is holding a snowball, ready to throw it at his opponents. The third pawn has a green and white striped vest on and is holding a silver broom in a defensive position. The last pawn is wearing a white vest with snowflake accents and it shoveling the snow with a silver shovel.

The right side of the chess board is red and looks like a book titled "A Winter Adventure". There is a picture of Santa and two stars. This side represents Team Santa, whose main color is red with gold accents. Each piece has a gold base with star accents. The king and queen are Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus respectively. They are both wearing red robes and mantles with gold, white, and star accents. They are holding star rods and wearing star necklaces. Unlike the polar bears, their crowns match. They're both red and gold crowns with star accents. The bishop is a white tree with red garland, gold star ornaments, and a star topper. This one also has red and gold gifts underneath it. The knight is an elf riding a wooden horse. He has a gold shield, red hat and vest, white beard, pants, and shirt, and brown shoes. The rook is a white tower with a red door. There is a red toy soldier standing next to the door. There is a gold star on top of the rook. All of the pawns are elves wearing red hats, white beards, and brown shoes. The first pawn is wearing red pants and a white shirt with gold suspenders. He is holding up a snowball, winding up to throw it. The next pawn is wearing a red outfit with a gold vest and white scarf. He is holding up a white and red ball with a gold star on it. Another pawn is wearing a white top coat and red pants. He is drumming on a red and white snare drum. The drum has a gold star on the top. The last pawn is wearing a red outfit with white pants and gold accents. He is playing a trumpet that has a white banner with a gold star displayed on it.

Both sides come together to make the classic checkered chess board pattern in red and green.
