Clothespin Soldier Collector's

1985 Clothespin Soldier #4, Scottish Highlander

1985 Hallmark Clothespin Soldier Collector's Ornament

QX4715

Fourth in the Clothespin Soldier Collector's Series.

This 1985 Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament is made to look like a wooden clothespin turned into a Scottish Highlander soldier in ceremonial uniform, sporting a plaid kilt, make of ribbon. He's wearing a red traditional Highlander tam hat with real blue pom pom and blue headband, that matches his blue eyes. A true "ginger," he has reddish-brown hair and a handlebar mustache. His blue jacket has metallic-gold buttons and white cross-straps with a metallic-gold insignia in the center of the chest. The arms are jointed at the shoulder so he can salute you! The ornament is dated in the copyright on the side of the left leg and stands on it's own, or can be hung from the top. It's encased in a green flocked velvet plastic tray, molded for protection, and packaged in the original green box with clear plastic lid.

Fun Fact: These ceremonial leather cross-straps were functional during the 18th and 19th centuries; used to carry ammunition and weapons, and were whitened using a chalky substance called pipe clay.

Linda Sickman, one of the original Hallmark Keepsake Ornament artists, started working for Hallmark in 1963 and joined the Keepsake division in 1975. She's best known for her work with pressed tin, folk art, and the series, "Rocking Horse Memories," which ran from 1981-1996. Her most sought-after pieces include the Winter Angel and Americana-style Santa and Mrs. Claus figures.
