Betsey Clark Collector's

1985 Betsey Clark #13 & Final, Special Kind of Feeling

1985 Hallmark Betsey Clark Collector's Ornament

QX2632

Thirteenth and final ornament in the Betsey Clark Collector's series.

This 1985 glass ball features seven Betsey Clark angels hanging out in the clouds with four birds - sleeping, swinging, playing with toys, and caring for the stars by dusting, washing, and placing them in proper alignment. The caption inside a cloud is: "CHRISTMAS BRINGS A SPECIAL KIND OF FEELING." A smaller cloud is dated "1985," with a blue bird on one side and a brown bird on the other. One of the blue birds carries sheet music in it's beak, while another carries a gold star. The ornament is packaged in the original "window" box, viewable from all sides, so you can see the entire bulb.

Betsey Clark (1915–1987), the American artist famous for her old-fashioned drawings of nature and waif-like children, started working for Hallmark in 1962, and her greeting card illustrations were so beloved, Hallmark made their first series of Keepsake Ornaments, in 1973, using her cottage-core art, which was then widely licensed, and is now highly collectible.

Disclaimer: As with many older glass ball ornaments, it may have developed "age spots," which is normal with older ornaments.

Sharon Pike's career at Hallmark spans 1983-2002 and boasts 151 documented designs including keepsake ornaments, needlepoint fabric pieces, woodland animals, Peanuts, Dr. Seuss, Harry Potter, Betsey Clark, club pieces, and miniatures. She also contributed to papercraft pieces and those with "magic" light and/or motion.
