Frosty Friends
1984 Snowy Seal
1984 Hallmark Frosty Friends Ornament
QX4501
This 1984 Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament features a baby harp seal, also known as a "pup" or "whitecoat." It's wearing a red velvet bow around it's thick neck and has those big innocent eyes that no one can resist, so take this one home for the holidays! The ornament is covered in velvet flocking for that furry feel, so you can pet it, too! The ornament can stand on it's own, or be hung from the top, and is packaged in the original full color box. The dated copyright is on the underside of the base.
Fun Fact: "Pups" have a yellowish tint to their lanugo, or fur, when they're born, due to the amniotic fluid, but turns white within days. Although white usually reflects heat, marine biologists discovered that their white fur actually absorbs and traps heat from the sun, like a greenhouse!
Ed Seale is from Ontario, Canada, and worked for Hallmark from 1968-1999. He's best known for being one of the founding artists in the Frosty Friends series, the longest-running Hallmark Keepsake series. "The warmth of fun and friendship in an icy, cold place. We lived on a farm in Canada — and the pond was the biggest source of entertainment."
