Hallmark Keepsake Ornament
1984 Snowshoe Penguin
1984 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament
QX4634
NOTE: Hallmark also used this product code for the 1992 Christmas Ornament, "Granddaughter's First Christmas."
This 1984 Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament features a penguin on snowshoes, wearing a pink and blue stocking hat with a real, dark blue pom pom. He's holding a green present with a metallic-gold bow and waddling as fast as he can to deliver it! The copyright is dated on the back, above his tail. The ornament is packaged in the original full color box.
Fun Fact: The practice of wearing snowshoes to prevent sinking into deep snow began over 4,000 years ago in Central Asia and their design was inspired by the large, hind feet of the snowshoe hare. Now popularized as a modern workout or recreational sport, one can double the caloric burn of regular walking at the same speed (420-1,000 per hour.)
Linda Sickman, one of the original Hallmark Keepsake Ornament artists, started working for Hallmark in 1963 and joined the Keepsake division in 1975. She's best known for her work with pressed tin, folk art, and the series, "Rocking Horse Memories," which ran from 1981-1996. Her most sought-after pieces include the Winter Angel and Americana-style Santa and Mrs. Claus figures.
