This 1984 Hallmark Christmas Stocking Hanger features a Shirt Tales character wearing a green sweater and Santa hat. The happy penguin has both fins in the air in a waving motion and it's shirt reads: "SANTA'S LI'L HELPER," in white, on the front. A giant white snowflake is in the center of the back and the "shirt tag" displays the "Shirt Tales" logo. The stocking hangs from the bend in the tail of the long hat. The hanger is encased in a green flocked velvet plastic tray, molded for protection, and packaged in the original full color box.
Shirt Tales characters were originally created by Janet Elizabeth Manco for Hallmark greeting cards in 1980 and included Tyg Tiger, Pammy Panda, Digger Mole, Rick Raccoon, Bogey Orangutan, and Kip Kangaroo. They were so popular that Hallmark partnered with Hanna-Barbera to put them on NBC in the famous Saturday morning cartoon, which aired from 1982-83, expanding the characters to embrace a superhero theme, where the animals became crimefighters using high-tech gadgets.
