1984 Hallmark Betsey Clark Ornament

QX2494

1984 Betsey Clark #12 1984 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament QX2494 Twelfth in the Betsey Clark Hallmark Keepsake series. This 1984 Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament is a frosted, white glass ball, with silver metal cap and clear plastic sleeve, featuring Betsey Clark characters decorating their home for the holidays. Two girls are indoors and three are outside. We can see through a window looking in to the one wearing an apron, while decorating an indoor tree with a string of cranberries, to match the one outside. The other is handing another girl a present at the front door, to be added to the pile on the sled that is ready to deliver to neighbors and friends. A tabby cat sits on the porch, under a big green holly wreath red bow and ribbons, watching the activity while blue, red, and brown birds help with the decorating of the outdoor tree and presents. The sentiment in the shuttered window, topped with holly garland and a gold bell, reads: "DAYS ARE MERRY, HEARTS ARE LIGHT, AND ALL THE WORLD'S A LOVELY SIGHT. CHRISTMAS 1984." The ornament is packaged in the original "window" box, viewable from all sides, so you can see the entire bulb. Disclaimer: As with many older glass ball ornaments, it may have developed "age spots," which is normal with older ornaments. NOTE: Golden glass balls have a tendency to develop more age spots than white, frosted, or chrome balls, and this is normal aging for that material. Betsey Clark (1915–1987), the American artist famous for her old-fashioned drawings of nature and waif-like children, started working for Hallmark in 1962, and her greeting card illustrations were so beloved, Hallmark made their first series of Keepsake Ornaments, in 1973, using her cottage-core art, which was then widely licensed, and is now highly collectible.
