This 1983 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament is a white, porcelain-coated glass ball with gold metal cap and clear plastic sleeve featuring a reproduction of The Annunciation, by the 15th century Renaissance Italian painter, and Carmelite priest, Fra Filippo (Lippo) Lippi. The original piece was Leonardo da Vinci's first major work, and owes much to the influence and assistance of Andrea del Verrocchio, his master, and his workshop. It features the Archangel Gabriel in front of the virgin Mary and a verse from the bible, Luke 1:35: "And the angel said to her, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the most high will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy, the Son of God..."
"Lippo Lippi" as he was called, was one of the most important Florentine painters and a great master of the early Renaissance period, teaching in his own workshop such distinguished distinguished pupils as Sandro Botticelli and Francesco di Pesello (Pesellino).
