1983 Santa Mountain Climber

1983 Hallmark Frosty Friends Ornament

QX4077

This 1983 Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament features Santa wearing mountaineering or "Alpine" boots and holding a rope, which is what the ornament is hangs from. He's dressed in a super snow suit to keep him warm, with his magic sack of toys securely strapped to his back, so he can make it to the peak and deliver presents to the little children on the mountaintop! The ornament is dated in the copyright on Santa's backside and it's packaged in the original full color box.

Fun Fact: During the early 20th century Olympic Games, medals were given in the sport of Mountaineering, before The International Olympic Committee retired the category in 1946. Although the historic Alpinism Prize was discontinued, they later included Sport Climbing at the Summer Games and Ski Mountaineering in the Winter Games.

Ed Seale is from Ontario, Canada, and worked for Hallmark from 1968-1999. He's best known for being one of the founding artists in the Frosty Friends series, the longest-running Hallmark Keepsake series. "The warmth of fun and friendship in an icy, cold place. We lived on a farm in Canada — and the pond was the biggest source of entertainment."
