This 1982 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament features Miss Piggy from The Muppets, as an angel, complete with gold, metal halo and flocked pink velvet wings, tipped with silver glitter and a lavender bow in the middle. She's dressed in a seafoam "goddess" gown with two tiers, a teal ribbon around the empire waist and a layered, lavender slip underneath. She's wearing her iconic white pearl necklace and giant diamond ring over her long, lavender gloves, which match her shoes and eyeshadow. The copyright is embossed on the left side of her gown. The ornament is packaged in the original display box, with clear plastic lid and blue flocked velvet plastic tray, molded for protection. it's made to look like the velvet curtains on a stage with a matching valence above, trimmed in gold brocade and fringe. The hardwood floor, in front of the stage, has a sign on a wooden easel, reading: "The Divine Miss Piggy," covering some of the stage lights and holly garland decorating the side of the stage.
Fun Fact: Miss Piggy's character was intended to be a comedic parody of a classy, jazz singer diva. Her high-fashion look and iconic jewelry were meant to give the glam but were also chosen with practical puppetry purposes, as well--the pearls hid the seam where her head connects to her body and the satin gloves, inspired by cabaret star "Hildegarde," hid the rod mechanism used to move her arms. As far as the oversized diamond goes, it's simply a symbol of her vanity and obsession with marrying "Kermie!"
John "Collin" Francis, retired Hallmark artist, is best known for the 13 versions of coastal lighthouses he designed for the Keepsake Lighthouse Greetings series, created over 13 consecutive years. Each depiction shows the keeper's home next to the tower, indicating how a lighthouse is more than just a beacon and a job to those who tend it. Also included in his catalog of work are the Baby's First Christmas series and many individual ornaments, produced over several decades.
