1982 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament
QX2143
This 1982 Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament is a frosted white glass ball ornament, with a silver metal cap, and clear plastic sleeve, featuring a lineup of creative gnomes contorting themselves to make their shadows spell the caption: "Christmas 82." The last gnome hold a large Red Delicious apple, with a gift tag reading: TO A SPECIAL TEACHER." One wears a vest, and one wears an apron, but they all have stocking hats, pointed shoes, knickers with suspenders, and snow white beards! The ornament is packaged in the original "window" box, viewable from all sides, so you can see the entire bulb.
Disclaimer: As with many older glass ball ornaments, it may have developed "age spots," which is normal with older ornaments.
Fun Fact: Not to be confused with elves, gnomes are the smaller, bearded breed, best known for gardening and tinkering. The word gnome was coined in the 16th century, by the Swiss alchemist, Paracelsus, to describe tiny earth spirits that lived underground, tunneling through subterranean territory and guarding the elements. Germany invented the ceramic lawn decorations in the 19th century, which became the popularized portrayal. They're usually depicted as short, stout, and quite old-looking with long noses and long, full white beards.
