This Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament is a red plastic disc with a chrome rim featuring a cameo of Santa standing in front of a fireplace mantle with his bag, ready to fill a tiny baby stocking that he's holding up. Three larger stockings hang from the mantle behind him, and one is already filled but Santa is busy laughing about the size of this one cute 'lil sock that's barely large enough to hold his thumb! The artist's name is next to the fireplace in red and the back of the ornament has the title of the ornament and date in metallic-silver: "Filling the Stockings, THIRD IN A SERIES, The Norman Rockwell Collection, CHRISTMAS 1982. It's encased in a clear, plastic shell, molded for protection, and packaged in the original box with open "window" in front and a die-cut back, in the shape of the ornament.
Norman Percevel Rockwell (1894–1978), the American painter and illustrator, is most famous for the decades of magazine covers he created for The Saturday Evening Post, showing a sentimental and now, nostalgic, view of American life. Also notable is his long-lasting relationship with the Boy Scouts of America's publication "Boys' Life" (now known as "Scout Life"). A prolific artist, he produced over 4,000 original works in his lifetime, most of which are now in public collections.
