This 1982 Hallmark Keepsake ornament features a clear acrylic red heart with a white dove hanging in the middle, suspended by a gold metal pin. Fun Fact: A dove sucks water through their beak, like a straw, rather than tilting their head back, as most birds do. Their feathers come out easily, so they can escape predators when grabbed, and they fly 40-55 mph. When they take flight in fear, their wings make a sharp whistling sound, as a warning to others. They have no gallbladders but are still able to make the bile needed to digest the massive amounts of seeds they eat. Doves drink water like a straw instead of tilting their heads back like most other birds.Their feathers pull away easily from their skin so they can escape when a predator grabs them.
Linda Sickman, one of the original Hallmark Keepsake Ornament artists, started working for Hallmark in 1963 and joined the Keepsake division in 1975. She's best known for her work with pressed tin, folk art, and the series, "Rocking Horse Memories," which ran from 1981-1996. Her most sought-after pieces include the Winter Angel and Americana-style Santa and Mrs. Claus figures.
