Hallmark Keepsake Ornament
1982 Angel
1982 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament
QX3096B
This 1982 Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament is acrylic with a beveled edge and metallic-gold caption, "Rejoice," with a frosted sunken relief of a majestic angel on the back. Her flowing robes, sashes and hair give the impression that she's hovering in the air, playing the harp. This intaglio technique is opposite that of a cameo, which has a raised, outward-protruding design, so when it's viewed from the front, you look through the smooth, clear material and see a detailed, three-dimensional image floating inside. It's packaged in the original box with window on the front and die-cut opening on the back, so you can feel the sculpture, and encased in a clear, plastic shell, molded for protection.
Fun Fact: Intaglio sunken relief art was widely used for signet rings and wax seals, as the sunken carving makes a raised, positive impression.
Don Palmiter, the artist, began his career with Hallmark in 1967, right out of high school, and became part of the Keepsake division in 1987, before retiring in 2023. His lifelong passion for cars and popular car-themed ornaments earned him a nickname: "The Car Guy."
