QX4295
This 1981 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament features a wide-eyed opossum hanging upside down from a holly bush branch. He's holding on to a green songbook, printed with the title "CAROLS," in metallic-gold on the front. Both paws grip the book tightly while a bright red cardinal perches on the edge of the cover, looking down, as if trying to read the lyrics upside down. The tails of the large red ribbon, tied in a bow around his neck, hang down the back of his curly, furry head but he's not distracted from his task of memorizing the ! The copyright is dated and embossed on the back of the branch. The ornament is packaged in the original box, with clear plastic lid and green flocked velvet tray, molded for protection.
Fun Fact: Opossums have five-digit fingers and toes, like humans, with an opposable thumb (hallux) on their hind feet!
Donna Lee, the artist, worked for Hallmark from 1958 until she retired in the early 90's, and is best known for creating the beloved Keepsake series, "Nostalgic Houses and Shops," and "Donna Lee Angels."
