1981 Mr. & Mrs. Claus
1981 Hallmark early 90's, and is best known for creating the beloved Keepsake Ornament
QX4485
This 1981 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament set features two figurines of the famous couple, Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. They're made to look as if they were carved from wood. "Himself" is wearing his full suit and green mittens, with a grey kitten on his left shoulder and nestled in the crook of his elbow. "Herself" is dressed in a long-sleeved red gown with tan apron and bonnet, holding two grey kittens. She's nuzzling one, while holding it to her cheek and the other is facing the opposite way, trying to climb atop her left shoulder. They're packaged in the original box, with clear plastic lid, and green flocked plastic tray, molded for protection. NOTE: These ornaments were first issued in 1975, separately, as "Adorable Adornments" (Santa QX1551 and Mrs. Claus QX1561 ), part of Hallmark's very first collection of handcrafted ornaments. The coloring on this set is a shade lighter on both figurines, except for Mrs. Claus' apron, which is more tan than cream.
Donna Lee, the artist who sculpted this line to appear as if they were carved from wood, worked for Hallmark from 1958 until she retired in the early 90's, and is best known for creating the beloved Keepsake series, "Nostalgic Houses and Shops."
