Hallmark Keepsake Ornament

1981 First Christmas Together

1981 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament

QX7062

This 1981 Hallmark Keepsake ornament features a chrome glass ball with silver metal cap and clear, plastic sleeve printed with: "1981" "FIRST CHRISTMAS TOGETHER" and "Christmas...the season for sharing the spirit of Love." On the dated panel, a bright red background with hearts, holly, flowers, and red poinsettias makes a border for a Victorian ice-skating couple dressed fashionably in fancy Winter attire. The man wears a black top hat, gloves, and suit with a green and red striped scarf, while his partner is all in green with white skates to match the white fur trim on her long skirt and jacket. The strings from her bonnet trail behind her, mingling with the man's fringed scarf, as they glide along in unison. The message panel has the same background behind a blue-bordered heart containing the sentiment with twinkling white stars scattered around the text. The ornament is packaged in the original "window" box, viewable from all sides, so you can see the entire bulb.

Disclaimer: As with many older glass ball ornaments, it may have developed "age spots," which is normal with older ornaments.

Fun Fact: Because ice skating had become such a popular Winter activity during the Victorian era, women's fashion was forced to change to accommodate the need for mobility and as a result, the hemlines were shortened, colors were brighter for contrast against the snow, and luxurious fur was added for practical warmth, as well as striking elegance.
