1981 Betsey Clark 1981 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament QX8022 Ninth in the Betsey Clark Hallmark Keepsake series. This 1981 Hallmark Keepsake Christmas Ornament is a frosted white glass ball with silver metal cap and clear plastic sleeve featuring a holiday quilt background with Betsey Clark characters in the snow. On the message panel, a young girl in red, wearing a green scarf, pulls a sled with a blue sack of presents through the snow with a lit candle in one hand. The inscription reads: THE GREATEST JOY OF CHRISTMAS DAY COMES FROM THE JOY WE GIVE AWAY. The other side is dated: "CHRISTMAS 1981," under a scene with two girls outside a log cabin. A girl wearing a green dress with red and white striped apron steps outside her home, holding a red box with a white ribbon, in both hands. She's met at the doorstep by the girl with the sled, as she chooses her friends present from the sled for the gift exchange. We see a Christmas tree, through the snow-covered window panes, decorated with red balls. The ornament is packaged in the original "window box," viewable from all sides, so you can see the entire bulb. NOTE: Hallmark previously used this product code for the 2009 "There's No Fun Like Snow Fun" Snowball and Tuxedo #9 series ornament. Disclaimer: As with many older glass ball ornaments, it may have developed "age spots," which is normal with older ornaments. Betsey Clark (1915–1987), the American artist famous for her old-fashioned drawings of nature and waif-like children, started working for Hallmark in 1962, and her greeting card illustrations were so beloved, Hallmark made their first series of Keepsake Ornaments, in 1973, using her cottage-core art, which was then widely licensed, and is now highly collectible.
