1981 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament
QX5122
This 1981 Hallmark Christmas Ornament is a Cameo Keepsake featuring a light blue disc with chrome border and cameo of a young girl petting a fawn. The caption "CHRISTMAS 1981" is below in white. Bordered by a holly garland and bows, various sizes of snowflakes are also embossed in the background. The back side has the same border with an inscription in white, in the center: "CHRISTMAS...WHEN HEARTS REACH OUT TO GIVE AND RECEIVE THE GENTLE GIFTS OF LOVE." The ornament is packaged in a clear plastic tray, molded for protection, and the original box has an open window front with die-cut back, so you can see both sides.
Betsey Clark (1915–1987), the American artist famous for her old-fashioned drawings of nature and waif-like children, started working for Hallmark in 1962, and her greeting card illustrations were so beloved, Hallmark made their first series of Keepsake Ornaments, in 1973, using her cottage-core art, which was then widely licensed, and is now highly collectible.
