1980 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament

QX2174

This 1980 Hallmark Christmas Ornament is an unbreakable, white satin ball from the Tree-Trimmer Collection and features an original design from Joan Walsh Anglund. On one side of the printed plastic sleeve, we see two young girls and a boy all holding hands while ice skating on a frozen pond. In the background, we see cottages and a church among snow-covered fir trees. In front of them is a cat with a red collar eyeing two birds watching from the other side of the pond. The artist's signature is on the bottom left and the dated copyright is on the bottom right. The other side shows a young boy kneeling on skates to tie the laces of a girl's skates, as she sits on a rock in the snow. Next to them is a decorated evergreen tree with red ornaments, candy cane, gold garland, and a gold star on top. The sentiment printed in the pale blue sky reads: "Each and every bright December brings the best times to remember," with "Christmas 1980" in the snow below.

Joan Walsh Anglund (January 3, 1926 – March 9, 2021) was an American poet and children's book author/illustrator, who graduated from the Chicago Institute of Art. Her artwork was featured on Hallmark greeting cards, ornaments, and pewter items, among other items.
