1980 Angel, Ambassador, Rare

QX3H This 1980 Hallmark Christmas ornament was released by their subsidiary, Ambassador, as part of The Holiday House Collection, and is a rare find for collectors of this box/brand. Ambassador was a division of Hallmark Cards, Inc. from 1979-1982, and approximately 50 different ornaments were sold in select stores, such as Ben Franklin, Woolworth's, card shops, drug stores and supermarkets. The ornament is meant to look as if it were carved from wood and features a brunette angel with beautiful German braids, or Gretchenfrisur, a traditional crown or "halo" braid. The yellow rays above her head show her glowing aura radiating outwards and she holds a green taper candle, lit with the light of love. She's wearing an Alpine-inspired dress, similar to a dirndl, with a red and green apron over a full, brown skirt and puffy white-sleeved blouse. The apron is decorated with a white, red, green, and yellow border design, resembling white, edelweiss flowers, symbolic of rare love, purity, and resilience. The copyright is dated and on the underside of the base. The ornament is packaged in the original box with clear plastic window and green, flocked plastic tray, molded for protection.
