Hallmark Keepsake Ornament

1978 Baby's First Christmas, Rare

1978 1978 > Rare Hallmark Ornaments

QX2003

This 1978 Hallmark Christmas Ornament is part of the Tree-Trimmer Collection and features a white, unbreakable satin ball with a transparent, plastic sleeve printed with a baby, teddy bear, and kitten. The ornament has two scenes, bordered with red ribbon, evergreen, and holly clusters. On one side, the baby is dressed in a yellow, footed-sleeper, and is laying on a pastel, patchwork blanket on the floor, holding the teddy bear, while the kitten naps. The brown-haired cutie is surrounded by wrapped presents, yellow booties, a blue and pink rattle, baby bottle, pastel-colored toy blocks, and a multicolored teething ring. The other side has the orange, mackerel tabby kitten wearing a red ribbon around it's neck and pointing to the caption: "BABY'S FIRST CHRISTMAS," printed in light blue and green, with "1978," in red, centered underneath. Teddy sits on the other side of the text, also wearing a red ribbon. The ornament is packaged in the original "window" box, viewable from all sides, with tag and gift card that reads, "Merry Christmas," in dark green, on the front cover.

Fun Fact: The term "tabby" refers to a genetic pattern on the cat's coat, which can be traced back to the African wildcat: Mackerel (tiger-like stripes), Classic (swirled, marbled), Spotted, or Ticked (speckled hairs). This makes them special, as this is the most widespread and ancient fur pattern, providing optimal camouflage and most have an "M" in darker fur above their eyes.
