Hallmark Keepsake Ornament

1976 Betsey Clark

1976 Hallmark Keepsake Ornament

QX2181

This Hallmark Satin Ornament set is part of the Tree-Trimmer Collection and features three, "unbreakable" mini satin balls, with original artwork by Betsey Clark. They are all dated "1976" on one side, and have the artist's signature on the other, with a sweet scene printed on the translucent plastic sleeves. One depicts two young girls in prairie dresses singing together, with one holding sheet music, while the other one plays the banjo. Another shows a young girl skiing down a snow-covered slope. The last one has a young girl in her pajamas, talking to Santa Claus, with presents scattered across the floor.

Betsey Clark (1915–1987), the American artist famous for her old-fashioned drawings of nature and waif-like children, started working for Hallmark in 1962, and her greeting card illustrations were so beloved, Hallmark made their first series of Keepsake Ornaments, in 1973, using her cottage-core art, which was then widely licensed, and is now highly collectible.
