Betsey Clark
1976 Betsey Clark #4, Glass Ball
1976 Hallmark Betsey Clark Ornament
QX1951
This Hallmark Christmas Ornament is fourth in the "Betsey Clark" series.
This ornament is part of the Tree-Trimmer Collection and features a cream-colored, frosted glass ball with a silver cap and original designs by Betsey Clark. The translucent, plastic sleeve is printed with two Winter scenes and has "CHRISTMAS 1976" on one side, with a serene, country landscape and dated copyright at the bottom. Two small houses sit on hilltops with evergreens all around, while the snowflakes continue to fall on the snow-covered ground. The other side shows two young, blonde girls walking side by side, one in a pink dress and the other wearing a green dress, both with matching bonnets. The bare trees in the background have snowflakes swirling around them and the scene is surrounded by a white ribbon border with holly leaves and berries interspersed. At the bottom is the artist's signature. Betsey Clark (1915–1987), the American artist famous for her old-fashioned drawings of nature and waif-like children, started working for Hallmark in 1962, and her greeting card illustrations were so beloved, Hallmark made their first series of Keepsake Ornaments, in 1973, using her cottage-core art, which was then widely licensed, and is now highly collectible.
