Betsey Clark
1975 Betsey Clark #3, Caroling Trio
1975 Hallmark Betsey Clark Ornament
QX1331
This Hallmark Christmas Ornament is third in the "Betsey Clark" series
This Hallmark Christmas Ornament is a frosted glass ball with a silver cap and translucent, plastic sleeve, printed with an original, dated design, featuring a trio of female carolers. They're all wearing matching prairie dresses and bonnets in pastel pink, blue, and yellow, and are sharing a book of sheet music, surrounded by blue snowflakes. The artist's signature is at the bottom of the scene. The opposite side of the bulb shows the front of the songbook with the text, "CHRISTMAS 1975," in blue. The year and copyright is at the edge of the plastic wrap.
Betsey Clark (1915–1987), the American artist famous for her old-fashioned drawings of nature and waif-like children, started working for Hallmark in 1962, and her greeting card illustrations were so beloved, Hallmark made their first series of Keepsake Ornaments, in 1973, using her cottage-core art, which was then widely licensed and is now highly collectible.
Disclaimer: As with many older glass ball ornaments, it may have developed "age spots," which is normal with older ornaments.
