is fifteenth in the "Holiday Lighthouse" series. Bring the lively spirit and musical vibes of New Orleans to your holiday décor with this beautiful lighthouse ornament, inspired by The New Canal Lighthouse , established in 1838. Located at the north end of the New Basin Canal, running from Lake Pontchartrain to the Central Business District, the beautiful white lighthouse with bright red roof and widow's walk, features an education center and museum, where visitors can interact with a unique underwater robotics program, to spy on local marine life. The structure was completely knocked off it's foundation and destroyed in 2005, by Hurricane Katrina, but was rebuilt by the Pontchartrain Conservancy, incorporating original timber. This detailed replica captures the warm Southern charm of the historic lighthouse, blending coastal beauty with festive holiday decor and atmosphere. Standing on the bright green front lawn, Santa plays trumpet with his talented polar bear friend on tuba, giving a joyful "N'awlins-style" street performance for the holidays. When connected to Hallmark's Keepsake Power Cord (sold separately), the beacon flashes from the tower, while a soft glow shines from the windows of the two-storied, wedding-cake house, mimicking an 1890 Victorian-era design, with an elevated base and crowned with a black lantern room on top. The ornament can stand on it's own, or be hung from the top, and is dated on the underside of the base. Fun Fact: This particular lighthouse is famous for its progressive maritime history, having been operated by five successive female lighthouse keepers during the 19th and early 20th centuries: Elizabeth Beattie and Margaret Norvell each took over after their husbands passed, successfully saving hundreds of stranded sailors from the dark and dangerous waters of Lake Pontchartrain!
